Dell XPS 9300 Review

The Dell XPS 9300 is one of the finest 13″ laptops you can buy, and a real contender against what we feel is THE best 13″ laptop – the MacBook Pro.

It’s a great laptop and you get what you pay for. It’s not cheap, but it’s a premium machine. We recommend the Dell XPS. That said between the MacBook Pro and the Dell XPS our choice is still the MBPro. But if you’re anti apple or want Windows 10, the XPS is the way to go. Lots to love about it.

What’s to like?

It’s made of great, sturdy materials and cutting edge technology will ensure this laptop stays with you for several years before you need to entertain an upgrade. Features include a Windows Hello compatible camera, which is also a capable Zoom and Skype webcam. A finger print scanner. And the latest 802.11AX wireless standard paired with Bluetooth 5. Trackpad and keyboard are top of their class. The keyboard feels great to type on with pleasant feedback, great response, and full size keys. Likewise the trackpad moves where you tell it to without a lot of sliding around and has a good feeling click. The screen, unique in its 13.4″ form factor, is one of the best you can buy and comes with several options such as 4K upgrades and touch capabilities (a feature missing from the MacBook Pro).

The display is bright, crisp, warm, and big with thin bezels. One of the best 13″ panels used on a laptop. It would be nice to see Dell implement a color temperature feature similar to Apple’s True Tone – otherwise a great display. And features dual microphones at the top along with Instant Boot features. This thing boots faster than the MacBook Pro.

Another nice feature is the expandability of both the RAM and NVMe drive in the Dell XPS. The Macbook Pro by comparison, doesn’t let you upgrade anything after you buy it.

Fast. Like, super fast. Everything on the computer feels so snappy and nimble.

Great materials. It feels good in the hand. It’s small, light weight, and can take a beating.

What’s NOT to like?

The speakers were disappointing. Apples manages to make their 13″ laptop have speakers that few 15″ laptops can boast about. Considering Dell paid close attention to every other aspect of this machine, it’d be nice if the speakers were treated with the same attention.
